Are your reasons for wanting PDF support so you can read offline?
I personally find document formats like PDF unsuitable for purposes like help documentation (where navigation is a primary focus), so please help me understand this requirement better.

Thanks for the sample, Eivind.
H+M has had a reasonable stab at it, but its not where we'd need it to be for release. It only has about 20% of the content, many images and links are broken, spacing is not great, etc.
It might work better if we fed it the raw HTML source files (or XML as Peter has suggested), but I expect we'd need to do the PDF generation ourselves to get something we are truly happy with.

Importing chm into H+M took 2-3 mins
Exporting as PDF less than one minute
H+M is great for adding to your build process.
Check email for results :)

In my opinion, the subsequent conversion of the CHM file to PDF is the wrong approach (although it is easily possible). Instead of creating the CHM file from the ImageEn sources, you should create a H+M XML source in the first place (this should be an easy task, as the H+M XML structure is well documented and self-explanatory). Then, creating each of the many H+M output formats (CHM, PDF, WebHelp, etc.) is just a matter of a few seconds and can be integrated into your build process. |

Help+Manual is XML-based, so I am sure the step from your source-generated CHM would be easy.
I am sure Alexander Halser from EC Software https://www.helpandmanual.com/company_about.html could help you make the transition. Then, creating both CHM and PDF outputs is just a matter of a fraction of a second by clicking a button. |

Our CHM files are compiled on-the-fly from HTML generated by parsing our source code. Any PDF solution would need to be compiled the same way (a lot of work to implement) or a batch CHM to PDF conversion (without any human intervention).

I use the excellent Help&Manual, which allows you to compile CHM, WebHelp, PDF, MS Word, eBooks, etc. from a single source. It can also import and decompile the ImageEn CHM file, and then recompile it to any of the mentioned formats. It has many customization options. It would allow you to create CHM, WebHelp, and PDF files from one single source in seconds. |

We've tried in the past by converting our generated CHM to PDF, but the the file was too complex (thousand of pages) that the available tools couldn't do it. If you know of a CHM to PDF converter that can do it (in a batch file) let us know.
